Something I Wrote

Winnebago in a new boat purchased just a week before, as he sat and waited for that allusive walleye to take the bait he admired the beauty of the trees changing color along the shore, falls in Wisconsin were beautiful and brought back some great memories. Memories of him and Jackie, his former wife who passed away just 2 weeks before.

Jeff was a shadow of his former self. He had been in great shape and hit the gym at least 4 days a week and kept himself up with all the hair products and skin products available, but now he looked as sick as his wife did. He had lost 30 pounds, his hair was unkept and his eyes looked dark and empty.

Jackie had struggled with pancreatic cancer the last year and finally succumb to the deadly disease. Jeff was devastated and had taken extended leave from his position as a detective on the Neenah police department, and he had to get away from everything for a little while, fishing was a just what he needed to escape the real world, if only for a day.

Just as his mind started to wander off he got a hit on his fishing pole, the rod bent in half. He started to reel in the catch, what he hoped was a monster fish into his boat when his phone rang…
